Converting SQL scripts to Notebook is super handy for users who are trying out notebooks and wanting to jumpstart with their notebook path for either reproducible analysis or building a troubleshooting guide / knowledge base. This is conversion feature is one of the features that the Azure Data Studio team (and friends) worked on during the Hackathon in July.
The easiest way to do this conversion if you are just trying it out, i.e. you’d like to do the conversion one at a time, use the “Export To Notebook” button.
Watch Warwick Rudd demo this at Data Exposed hosted by Anna Hoffman here (start at minute 22:54 “Export Demo”).
Once you’re ready to try with converting SQL scripts in bulk, you may want to try ConvertTo-SqlNotebook
– see the documentation and examples on GitHub. Thanks to Aaron Nelson (t | b) and Doug Finke (t | gh) for working on various ConvertTo* cmdlets. You can also convert from PowerShell to notebook too, with ConvertTo-PowershellNotebook
. If you ♥ PowerShell and want to get started with Notebooks, please do check out Doug’s PowerShellNotebook module!
That’s it 🙂
